Summer Grad Class

Today is day 3 of our authors studies class. Everyone is working away and I am having so much fun reading and grading the bios of the various authors. I am learning lots from my students. Jennifer Fox has been coming each day to help us with the technology component. I am so thankful for her teaching and guidance. What a blessing she is!!!

Author Studies

Well, God is so good. I asked for at least 5 students in my grad course, and He blessed me with 9 beautiful, wonderful ladies. We are working diligently to study and learn all we can about an author each day. We will then create projects to share our knowledge of the authors. All 9 students will then share their assignments with their classmates. The idea is to leave the campus with 9 glogsters, 9 video book talks, 9 prezis, and 9 webquests all classroom ready! If we can just work out the technology glitches, all would be dandy!!!

Books, Books, Books

In my technology class, I learned about a great website called Shelfari. In this site, I can pick some of my favorite books that I've read, want to read, and own. I then display them on my blog for all to see. Of course, my bookshelf has many Newbery books on it, some books by my author friend and favorite guest speaker (J.B. Cheaney), and the current Karen Kingsbury I'm reading. I will try to update the bookshelf with my current reads. I hope you'll read some with me, too!

About Me

I am Julie Bryant and I am an Assistant Professor of Education at Southwest Baptist University. I teach Children's Literature; Teaching Reading and Language Arts; and School, Home, Community Partnerships. I supervise student teachers and advise students as part of my workload. I thoroughly enjoy this part of my job because this is the time that I get to work one on one with my students outside of the classroom. I have been teaching at SBU since 2002. Prior to that, I taught kindergarten and first grade at Leland O. Mills Elementary which is part of School of the Osage. Other than the five years I taught in Lake Ozark, I have lived in Bolivar, MO my entire life.

I am married to Robbie Bryant, HVAC technician for the University. We are blessed with two beautiful children who bring total joy to our lives. My family attends Lakeside Assembly of God Church in Pittsburg, MO. I teach children's church and sing in the choir. We are also involved in the Esquire Ministry on Wednesday nights in Bolivar.

I enjoy scrapbooking, taking pictures, writing stories, shopping, and spending time playing with my kids (Star Wars, doll house, tea parties, Wii games, and watching my son dress up as the next character in his imagination!!) I volunteer in my son's kindergarten classroom and delight in my classroom time with him and the other students.

Wow! I'm a blogger!

I cannot believe that this moment is here. I am actually blogging. So far, I have nothing to say, but just wait. Before long, I'll be sharing all sorts of things.
